Maple Court, in Hampstead, is part of a recent gated development of 14 flats - on the site of a former nursing home - consisting of three apartment blocks arranged around communal gardens.
Chris Dyson Architects have provided schemes for the extension of a number of apartments, maximizing the floor space within each home and creating better connections between living space, balconies and roof terraces.
For a penthouse duplex apartment in Maple Court CDA created a new roof-top family room. One wall of this room consists of retractable glazing, which when open, allows the roof terrace to become part of the room, opening up the apartment and improving on the previously tenuous relationship between roof terrace and accommodation. New terrace landscaping of planters, including an antique olive tree, gives the terrace a feeling of privacy and screens it from the rest of the development.
