This competition submission responds to a brief to interpret and present the wider aspects of the Battle of Britain based around the aircraft and person experience.
The thesis of the scheme: to create a free-flowing circulation pattern based on a coherent storyline leading visitors on a physical and psychological journey through the building. The focal element - a large sphere - expresses the global significance of the Battle as well as the vault of the sky below which it was fought. Within its transparent envelope are suspended aeroplanes of the conflict - arranged in simulated flight not as earth-bound relics. Night-time illumination of this sphere would act as a beacon visible for miles around.
The circulation meanders through the sphere connecting a series of more intimate spaces in which to relay personal experiences. The Museum experience culminates in rooftop balconies overlooking the Central London skyline.
