CDA Appointed for Residential Renovation at Historic Charterhouse Estate

We’re delighted to be working on a small residential renovation within The Charterhouse, an almshouse and historic estate in Clerkenwell, which has provided supported housing and a thriving community for people over 60 since 1611.

For a studio with a love of working with heritage buildings, this is something truly special. Architecturally, it’s a fascinating composition of periods and styles, which have evolved from an original 14th century monastery to encompass a Tudor mansion and more recent contemporary spaces – its walls tell the story of almost 700 years of history. Our work presents the challenge of seamlessly integrating services and carving out redundant space to create some exceptional new accommodation.

Many of its spaces are open to the public, including the chapel, historic rooms and garden, so we highly recommend a visit!
